Now that Nokia is no longer bound to the agreement of Microsoft's acquisition, the Finnish manufacturer is free to pursue its own objectives, starting with targeting the smartphone market once more with the release of its first-ever device. While reports claimed that the company was going to be releasing its first wave of smartphones during the fourth quarter of 2016, the latest one states that it will be announcing the devices during second quarter of 2017.

We can only guess that the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 is going to provide the manufacturer the ideal platform and the much needed momentum to help Nokia get back on track, but the company's efforts in making a great smartphone will also be necessary for this movement to get underway. Naturally, with Nokia's Symbian OS now sleeping with the fishes, the manufacturer will have no choice but to partner with Google to release an Android-powered smartphone, unless of course it has ample amount of funds to begin developing its own mobile OS that can take on Android and iOS, as well as provide users with a plethora number of apps.

It is highly unlikely at this point, which is probably why we should be seeing the first Android smartphones from Nokia being unveiled at the MWC Trade Show in 2017. According to previous leaks, one high-end device from the company featured a Snapdragon 820 and a 22.6MP rear camera coupled with a QHD display, but there has been no follow-up to that leak, which means that we could have something else being introduced later on.

With Snapdragon 835 officially announced, Nokia will have a slew of options to choose from, so we have our fingers crossed for this one. It is unclear what price the company has targeted with the revival of its smartphone lineup, but looking at how competitive this race has become, Nokia better bring its A-game in 2017.
