Mithali Dorai Raj, the first captain to lead India to an ICC ODI World Cup final twice, believes in pursuing what she wants to do.

Regarded as one of the greatest cricketing batters, Raj has set a precedent for women to choose their dreams over societal expectations.

At 34, Raj says if you are financially independent, you can overcome any difficulties that you face in today's world.

"There are few things in life you can achieve when you have to take decisions. I have taken a decision to pursue my career and struggled a lot, faced a lot of challenges. I don't just consider societal norms," Raj told Entrepreneur India in an exclusive chat.

Raj, who is the highest run-scorer in women's international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in ODIs reveals top her #3 tips for women to lead.

Her top three tips that can lead any woman to success include a lot of self-belief & self-confidence, being independent in one's thoughts and being very strong mentally.

Her message to women is simple – "Back yourself. Every failure is an experience in itself. Learn and no matter even if fail, you should be confident that you will make a comeback."
