Entrepreneur India spoke to Hiro Mashita, Founder and Director of M&S Partners at GMIC Bangalore on characteristics he looks for in Indian companies prior to funding.

"Entrepreneurs should have a clear vision about what they want to solve and also try and keep it simple. At times people tend to talk a lot and tend to complicate things. I also look out for a great ambition and intention in people," he said.

Apart from these aspects, Hiro added that things like business model, strategy and team are also key filtering aspects. "In cases of very early stage companies I look out mainly for the business model and strategy," he said.

Moving on to Series A or Pre-Series A he also looks for traction very keenly and the differentiating factor from other companies.

Hiro also emphasized on the mutual understanding between him and the entrepreneurs and the necessity of contributing in terms of expertise to the startup. "I don't define myself as a VC, I define myself as a business supporter and that's my motivation. I believe in struggling together and hence I focus on early stage companies," he adds.
