School Says - General Information
Clemson University is ranked 27th among the nation's public doctoral-granting universities. The innovative and flexible MBA program Ââ€" accredited by AACSB International -- prepares candidates for senior-level management positions in the global marketplace. An MBA from Clemson will give you the analytical, theoretical, strategic and real-world knowledge to lead businesses. And you will gain expertise in competencies recruiters say they want most Ââ€" leadership, team development and communication skills. Small, interactive and diverse classes, coupled with individual attention from faculty mentors and coaches, will give you ample opportunity to improve your leadership style and polish communication skills. In fact, we think youÂ'll find that the Clemson MBA environment provides a dynamic, supportive culture that will help you achieve your career goals. Uniquely, about 50 percent of our full-time MBA candidates are awarded graduate assistantships in which they serve as consultants for area businesses, helping company executives with market assessments, product plans, competitive research, etc. Numerous dual-degree options also are available, as are study abroad programs in Belgium, China and Italy.

School Says - Student Body
ClemsonÂ's MBA students hail from all over the world. Students range in age, backgrounds, levels of work experience and interests. About 40 percent of students have science or engineering undergraduate degrees, with 24 percent from the sciences, 20 percent from the humanities and 16 percent from engineering. About 30 percent of students are women and roughly 20-30 percent of students are international.

School Says - Academics
The 21-month full-time program (62 hours) offers students a strong, in-depth foundation in graduate-level business topics combined with a choice of specializations, or with the opportunity to design their own specialization if earning a dual master's degree. Designated specializations include Innovation and Entrepreneurial Leadership, Real Estate, Marketing Management and Supply Chain and Information Management. Clemson's MBA for Working Professionals (33-45 hours) allows individuals to take courses full-time or part-time. Students can maintain their full-time careers, as courses are taught in the evenings. This program requires at least two years of relevant work experience. The Clemson MBA curriculum incorporates case studies, consulting projects for real companies, field trips, traditional lectures, role-playing, simulations and teamwork. It also features seminars with top industry speakers and professional development activities, such as an annual ethical leadership case competition, taped presentations and mock interviews and workshops on leadership, case interviewing, cross-cultural communication and more.

School Says - Admissions
Acceptance is based on a careful appraisal of students' academic records, GMAT, TOEFL, essay, letters of recommendation, interview and work experience. Students are evaluated on an individual basis. A minimum GPA of 3.0, GMAT score of 600, TOEFL score of 580 on the paper-based test or 237 on the computer-based test, plus a minimum of one-two years of work experience are preferred. Two years of work experience are required for undergraduate business majors. Application deadlines for the full-time program are April 15 for international students and June 15 for domestic students. For the part-time program, deadlines are April 15, July 15 and November 1. Visit our admissions and application Website at www.clemson.edu/business/mba/apply.htm for details. School Says - Campus Life
Clemson University offers several top-level facilities and resources. Most MBA classes are taught in Â"executiveÂ" style classrooms (tiered rooms in a U-shape) with integrated computer and audio/video resources. Clemson's main library provides a variety of services and extensive online access to electronic information. The campus is supported by an enterprise-class computing environment.

Students Say - Academics
Native South Carolinians seeking the MBA will have a hard time beating the ratio of value to quality that they'll find at Clemson University. Thanks to lower in-state tuition costs, Palmetto State residents can earn a highly regarded business degree for a small fraction of what their peers elsewhere in the country spend. Beautiful weather and first-rate intercollegiate football further sweeten the deal.

Approximately 30 full-time students enter Clemson's MBA program each year; full-timers make up a little less than half the student body. The program, students warn, "moves quickly. We complete 62 graduate-level credits in 21 months." One student explains, "I recommend the program to anyone who is confident that they can keep up with a heavy workload through effective time-management and teamwork skills." The first year is devoted entirely to foundation courses, some taught in a "highly intensive, highly rigorous seven-week format." The second year allows students to choose specializations in one of four designated tracks (innovation and entrepreneurial leadership, supply chain and information management, real estate and marketing management). Double degrees are not uncommon here; one student in our survey was earning an MBA in tandem with an MS in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management, while several others noted that "Clemson is strong in engineering and research, so it's a good place for engineers and scientists seeking business education." Students in all areas praise "the reputation of the professors and the school's reputation throughout the Southeast."

Part-time classes meet in the evening at the University Center of Greenville; the program is open only to those with at least two years of work experience. The program consists of five core courses (some or all of which can be waived based on prior academic work or passing a proficiency exam), eight required advanced courses, and three electives. The program offers more flexibility than does the full-time program but also provides fewer opportunities for teamwork and group projects. Participants appreciate the fact that "classes only meet one night per week, which makes it easier on family life." They also tell us that "some professors are fantastic, and others are not so hot. Overall, though, the good outweighs the bad."

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the MBA program at Clemson must submit a current resume (two years of work experience are required for the Career Accelerator curriculum; work experience is preferred, but not required, for the Career Launch curriculum); one official transcripts representing all undergraduate work (an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in a non-business major is preferred); two letters of recommendation; a one- to two-page personal statement (required of applicants to the Career Launch MBA); phone interview and an official GMAT score report (score of at least 580 preferred for applicants to the full-time program). Non-native English speakers applying to the full-time program must submit TOEFL scores.

Students Say - Campus Life
"The greatest strength of Clemson University is the ‘Clemson Family,'" and MBAs here agree. "The network of alumni and friends is outstanding. Every graduate is more than willing to lend a hand to a fellow Tiger." Community spirit runs especially high during football season, which "is very fun. Enthusiasm generated by the interest in football leads to better community involvement in . . . the university." The surrounding town of Clemson "is dedicated to the university. There is a small downtown area with plenty of bars/restaurants, nearby mountains/lakes, and plenty of other social activities for students to partake in." As one student sums up, "Clemson University is a special place. There are plenty of opportunities for intramural sports, nightlife, guest lectures and speeches, university events, and cultural events."

Clemson MBAs tend to be "laid-back people keeping very rigorous schedules. Small-town life helps because there aren't too many distractions." They are "very supportive of one another. We aid each other through study sessions, workshops, and other methods to ensure that everyone understands the material." One full-time MBA points out, "The other students are truly what make this program excellent. I have built so many friendships that I know I will take with me into the business world. We often take trips together, including spring break, study abroad, professional seminars, etc. Working so closely over the past few years in the classroom has really helped us to become tightly knit and great friends outside of the classroom."

Students Say - Careers
Clemson MBAs benefit from the Office of MBA Career Development, which "assists students and their career development." The office offers career placement support including one-on-one professional coaching, personalized placement assistance as well as a range of self-assessment instruments, job-search counseling, interviewing and resume-writing workshops, seminars, and online job databases. Students praise the value of alumni connections but also feel that the office "needs help with national job placement services. Clemson is very well connected within the state but not so much outside of the state."

Companies most likely to recruit Clemson MBAs include Accenture, BB&T, Coca-Cola, Datastream Systems Inc., Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Duke Power Co., Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Lexmark International, Michelin North America, Milliken, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Procter & Gamble, Schlumberger, Sonoco, Trane Co., and Wachovia.
