Students Say - Academics
The Hagan School of Business at Iona College enjoys "a solid reputation in New York." That, and "the flexibility of the program"-it "offers many distance learning and hybrid courses so that you can take lecture classes with your peers, or web-based classes on your own time"-appeal to the predominantly part-time student body here. Hagan also fits the needs of those in a hurry to complete their degrees; explains one MBA, "The classes are on a trimester basis, meaning the overall length of the program is shorter, allowing you to graduate faster." Students tell us that "the trimester schedule of classes seems to be designed with working individuals in mind."
Hagan has a relatively small graduate business program, creating a "small-school setting that allows a sense of community amongst the students and the teachers." Students may attend classes on the main campus in New Rochelle or at the Rockland Graduate Center in Pearl River. Online classes are available. The school also offers onsite MBA at Wyeth Ayert Pharmaceutical offices. Regardless of the option, Iona works hard to accommodate working students and their employers. One student writes, "The cooperation between the school and the company in which I was an employee was great. The school facilitated many factors for the students including parking, general access, registering, paying, and having small classes. They also provide classes through distance learning."
Iona professors "are savvy in all areas and tend to be knowledgeable and available when needed." They are demanding, but they "are great as long as you do the work and pay attention to what they are talking about." Students appreciate that "it seems like [professors] are all very involved in their fields, consulting or running their own businesses, [which] allows them to stay current and apply real experience to academic theory." Iona offers concentrations in finance, human resource management, information systems, management, marketing, and public accounting. The school also offers certificate programs in international business and e-commerce, business continuity and risk management, sports and entertainment studies, and general accounting.

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the Hagan MBA program must submit the following materials: a completed Hagan School of Business application form, along with a $50 application fee; copies of official transcripts from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended; two letters of recommendation; and an official score report for the GMAT reflecting a score no more than 5 years old (the GMAT requirement may be waived for applicants with at least 7 years of post-undergraduate professional experience). International applicants must submit all of the materials listed above, as well as an official score report for the TOEFL, WES, and cash support affidavit. Transcripts in languages other than English must be translated and interpreted by an approved service. Applications are processed on a rolling basis and are valid for 1 full year from the day they are received by the school. Applicants may request an interview, which the school recommends but does not require.

Students Say - Campus Life
"There is life constantly on campus" at Iona's main campus in New Rochelle, MBAs tell us. "Even after 5:00 [P.M.], which could be considered off peak, there are always students milling about. We frequently get together after classes to meet and talk. Many graduate students belong to clubs and athletic teams, which brings a strong sense of community." One student adds, "It's fast paced because everyone is involved in something, from clubs to athletics to on-campus jobs. It's a very friendly environment and not too small or not too big." Students at the satellite campuses tell us that "the majority of clubs, activities, etc., occur at the New Rochelle campus." These students "pretty much attend class and then go home. Students do not hang out at the Rockland Graduate Center. Most go to their classes and then go home to their families. However, everyone is friendly, and you do get to know your classmates."
Iona MBAs are a mixed group. On the New Rochelle campus, "Many are young, fresh from getting their undergraduate degree." In fact, some are recent graduates of Iona, taking advantage of course waivers to speed through their MBAs. However, "There are also many who are older, with children, trying to balance their school, career, and life. It is a diverse group in terms of ethnicity, experiences, and personality." A number of Iona's full-timers are international students who "are able to give international insight into the very globally focused business courses."

Students Say - Careers
The Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development handles counseling and placement services for all Iona students and alumni. Students tell us that "Iona has several career guidance and placement programs and several academic and community social justice programs in the Catholic tradition. Iona is one of the most respected colleges in the greater New York metropolitan region." Even so, many here feel the office needs to improve its game. One student says, "Career services are important to many MBA students who are looking to leave their current employer after completing the MBA program. There are limited resources in the area of career services for these individuals, however."
