| You don't have to be an America Online member to use AOL Instant Messenger, a program that allows Internet users to communicate via private text messages. AOL Instant Messenger indicates when your friends, family members, or business colleagues are online. It has the ability to combine AOL's Buddy List and Instant Message features, enabling users to send and respond to messages. New in version 4.7: Friendly Name support is here - no more hard-to-remember names for your ICQ or Mobile users on your Buddy List! Now, when you add an ICQ or Mobile user to your Buddy List, you will have an opportunity to create a more familiar Friendly Name for that user. You can also edit existing ICQ or Mobile users on your Buddy List to add a Friendly Name to their entry. Once you've created a Friendly Name for an ICQ or Mobile user, you will see their Friendly Name, when they're online, in your Buddy List, Instant Messages with them, and other places in AIM.
