Idenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc., headquartered in Cambridge, MA, is a biopharmaceutical company currently focused is on the treatment of infections caused by hepatitis B and C, and HIV. Jean-Pierre Sommadossi, Ph.D., the principal founder of Idenix, has served as the chairman since the company's inception in 1998 and as president and CEO since 2000. Sommadossi served as a professor of pharmacology, toxicology and clinical pharmacology and associate director of both the Center for AIDS Research and the Liver Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine for eight years. Sommadossi also served on the Research Agenda Committee of the AIDS Clinical Trial Group for three years and holds a Pharm.D. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Marseilles in France.
