COMTECH GETS $3.0 MILLION ORDER FOR MODEM UPGRADE KITS.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL), Melville, N.Y., has announced that its Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems, Inc., has received orders aggregating $3.0 million for additional AN/TRC-170 modem upgrade kits and extended warranty coverage for the previously purchased upgrade kits. The order was received from a major U.S. contractor.

These state-of-the-art modem upgrade kits, which are used by the U.S. Army to upgrade its AN/ TRC-170 troposcatter terminals to 16 MB/s, incorporates Comtech's patented Turbo Product Code forward error correction technology. In addition to providing the highest level of proven performance achieved on troposcatter links to date, the modems also include automatic power control, which allows for lower transmitted power when communication channel conditions permit, reducing the risk of unfriendly intercept and interference with other communications. The AN/TRC-170 terminals, currently deployed in Iraq, reduce the dependence on satellite communications by offering an effective alternative communications transmission medium.

Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "We are extremely pleased by this award from the U.S. Army for additional modem upgrade kits. Once again our industry-leading and field-proven troposcatter modem technology was the key to success in receiving this award."

Comtech Systems, Inc. specializes in system design, integration, supply and commissioning of turnkey communication systems including over-the-horizon microwave, line-of-sight microwave and satellite.
