I rarely read an article as well-written as "Making Integrated Audits Reality" (April 2009) by Anita Helpert and John Lazarine. I was a computer audit manager years ago and find that some things change but many remain the same. I liked the changes Helpert and Lazarine made at their organization and how they are encouraging people to broaden their skills. I particularly liked the comment, "When an auditor finds a control issue in IT, there has to be a direct link to the business risk. And it is, emphatically, internal auditing's job to address it." I hope others learn from it.
