Before You Start Up, Do These 3 Things Take these three steps before leaving your day job to ensure your success as an entrepreneur.

Before you take the plunge and start your company, remember some of the aspects of your current job will help you succeed in your new venture. Keep these things in mind as you move to make your exit.

1. Develop your skills. Before you leave, take as much time to learn from your colleagues as possible. Get up to speed on industry-specific software; brush up on your sales tactics or social-media skills.

2. Don't burn bridges. Your relationships with mentors, co-workers and the people you supervise are invaluable. Even if the company isn't for you and you're itching to be your own boss, you never know who will be able to help you, and how you'll be able to return the favor down the line.

3. Maintain your integrity. Be honest and take responsibility for your actions on the job. When starting a new business, your word and reputation can make or break you.
