Hotel Corque
Solvang, California
In the quaint town of Solvang, a 25-year-old hotel has been dramatically transformed and renamed Hotel Corque in honor of the wine country that surrounds it. Formerly known as the Royal Scandinavian Inn, the 73,300-square-foot hotel boasts 125 rooms, including eleven suites, six junior suites, and a presidential suite that encompasses 1,200 square feet of the entire third floor. From the top to the ground floor, the hotel is designed to give guests a sense of place while they escape their day-to-day routine and relish all the pleasures Santa Barbara wine country has to offer.
Guests don't have to go far. Right next door, they will find Root 246, the newest feather in the cap of celebrated Chef Bradley Ogden. The hip, innovative restaurant is named Root 246, not only as a pun on Highway 246, which passes through Solvang, but as a tribute to the fresh, organic food that drives the entire menu. Chef Bradley is widely considered a pioneer of the farm-fresh and organic movement. He has been named Best California Chef by the James Beard Foundation, one of the Great American Chefs by the International Wine and Food Society, winner of the Golden Plate Award by the American Academy of Achievement, Chef of the Year by the Culinary Institute of America, and Chef Bradley has appeared on a long list of popular television shows. His more than 30 years of professional culinary experience assures guests a memorable dining experience. The menu will always be a surprise, as it changes daily, depending on what is available in the area from local growers and farmers. The restaurant's flexible, welcoming atmosphere and floor plan makes it ideal for hosting local winemaker dinners and meetings, as well as much larger events. In fact, it boasts Solvang's largest banquet room--a room that seats up to 350 people.
Upstairs, the guest rooms are designed with a wine tourer's escape in mind. The generously sized beds are appointed fluffy pillows and comforters, and carefully selected Posture Care mattresses with the right blend of temper and spring. Expansive bathrooms, featuring Gilchrist & Soames bathroom amenities, offer double vanities with glass-enclosed showers or separate tubs and showers. Large claw footed tubs grace the guest suite bathrooms. And, because wine tasting builds an appetite, all rooms offer refrigerators and room service.
For those who must touch base with the real world during their stay, Hotel Corque offers an impressive business center complete with workstations, laptop hookups, complimentary printing, and a 42-inch LCD television. Those who want to soak up the sun seek the serenity of the outdoor pool with cabanas.
Checking into Hotel Corque is a pleasantly relaxing experience. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a Guest Service Agent, seated at a desk, and offered a small taste of a delicacy from Root 246. Their agent then escorts them to their room and prompts them to ask questions about the room, the hotel, the town of Solvang, the nearby Chumash Casino, and beyond. At Hotel Corque, every staff member is trained as a concierge, making sure each guest finds a sense of place in Santa Barbara wine country.
