Microsoft had acquired Flipgrid, an education-focused video platform. Flipgrid is used by more than 20 million teachers and students. The video platform used to be a subscription-based service, but is now free for students and users thanks to the Microsoft acquisition. Microsoft has already integrated the Flipgrid app into Microsoft Teams in Office 365 for Education.

The life science data management and collaboration platform Benchling raised $14.5 million in a series B round. The round was led by Benchmark Capital with participation from F-Prime Capital and Thrive Capital. This recent round of funding is to help streamline collaboration among scientists.

Sensible Object, a company that makes games for a connected world, just raised $3.2 million. Sensible Object is not your typical board game. The game uses Amazon Alexa as a way to provide an interactive experience by introducing players to locals in cities around the world through trivia questions.
