Key Inflation Gauge Pops Again, This Time Hitting Highest Level In Nearly 40 Years
The Commerce Department reported on Dec. 23 that the headline Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index rose by 5.7 percent in the 12 months through November. The highest level since July 1982, when PCE inflation hit 5.8 percent.

The Labor Department said in a Sept. 10 statement that, for the 12 months ending in August, the final demand producer price index (PPI) jumped by 8.3 percent, the highest number in the history of the series.
