Donnie Wahlberg Just Broke the Guinness World Record for Most Selfies Taken in 3 Minutes. Here's Why That Matters. Long story short, it doesn't. But it's sorta fun to watch anyway.

By Dan Bova

Journalists are privileged with the enormous responsibility of writing and reporting stories about people and events that are changing the course of human history.

This is not one of those stories. This, instead, is a story about former teen heartthrob turned respected actor turned guy on a cruise line with an iPhone and a dream. His dream? To the smash the Guinness Book record for most selfies taken in 3 minutes.

His attempt happened on board the Carnival Triumph, which hosted the 8th Annual New Kids on the Block celebrity cruise. The sea was angry that day. (Or it may have been calm, we actually have no idea.) Point is, stormy seas or not, nothing would stand between Donnie and his dream. And when it was go time, go he went in a fetching green baseball cap.

When the buzzer went off at 180 seconds, the Guinness Book official (possibly questioning the decisions in her life that led to this moment) counted 122 selfies. World, we have a new selfie world record.

According to an Entertainment Tonight report, Donnie didn't stop the selfie magic at the buzzer, snapping somewhere around 1,600 fan pics by the end of the NKOTB-themed fantastic voyage.

A triumphant Wahlberg tweeted:

Congratulations to all involved in the achievement. You dared to dream while smiling awkwardly and cemented your place in history.
