2010 Entrepreneurial Programs: Business SchoolsSchool Says - General Information
At the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College, we have a rich tradition of cultivating entrepreneurial thinking. While some of our graduates pursue start-up ventures, more of our graduates use their entrepreneurial training to succeed in the corporate environment. Here, entrepreneurship is a state of mind.
Babson features four unique programs that prepare students to become superior managers and to meet the needs of progressive organizations.
Our Two-Year MBA program emphasizes the practical application of business ideas.
The One-Year MBA Program is an accelerated, full-time MBA program for students with an undergraduate business degree and at least two years of post-graduate work experience.
The Babson Evening MBA program offers the flexibility and convenience that working professionals require.
The Fast Track MBA is a part-time program combining classroom instruction with Web-based, distance learning.

Students come from diverse industries and represent 28 countries. International students compose 41% of the class. International students participate in an intensive Pre-MBA program, which consists of familiarization with the campus and resources, basic introductions to economics, marketing, and the case method, and also recreational and social events.
School Says - Academics
All programs emphasize the global aspects of business and the value of the entrepreneurial spirit.
Our Two-Year MBA program features BabsonÂ's innovative modular approach and emphasizes the practical application of business ideas.
The accelerated One-Year MBA Program is for students with an undergraduate business degree. The One-Year program allows qualified students to earn an MBA degree in just 12 months, including an initial summer semester featuring Babson's innovative modular curriculum.
The Babson Evening MBA offers a dynamic curriculum featuring the same pacesetting modular learning approach that we use in our full-time programs.
The Fast Track MBA is a part-time program combining traditional classroom instruction with Web-based, distance learning. Students earn a degree in just 24 monthsÂâ€"much faster than a traditional part-time MBA. Students attend classes on-campus during intensive, two-day sessions approximately every six weeks. Convenience and flexibility make Fast Track the perfect choice if for those balancing work, long-term career goals, and other demands. Fast Track is offered in Wellesley, Massachusetts and Portland, Oregon.

School Says - Campus Life
Babson students have access to an extensive business collection through Horn Library, as well as a staff of professionals to help them find the information they need.
Within Horn Library students may access a variety of electronic resources, such as Bloomberg, Reuters, Bridge, Compustat, and Morningstar, for economics, financial information, marketing, accounting, entrepreneurship, etc. Financial resources are showcased in the Stephen D. Cutler Investment Management Center in the library. Group study rooms linked to Babson's computer network provide space for team meetings and individual study.
Students Say - Academics
Students tell us that Babson College's F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business has "an excellent reputation for entrepreneurship," meaning that it "is 100 percent focused on the number-one trend in business today." Some, in fact, are convinced that this is "the best entrepreneurship program in the United States," and can point to top rankings in entrepreneurial business management and opportunity identification and assessment to back their opinions.
Babson's highly integrated curriculum "is incredibly rigorous…None of the academic cases focuses on any one discipline. Instead, we look at a business case from many perspectives, just as a business person must in the 'real world.' A strategy problem is not simply a strategy problem. It has marketing, operational, organizational, and financial implications (among others) as well." One student adds, "Babson is known for developing the full thinker. The teaching methods and courses encourage creative thinking and idea generation. The professors and students, the clubs and the environment all weave together to support a balanced education focused on integrated business management from finances to leadership, both inside and outside of the classroom." This approach makes Babson "a good program for general management" as well as for entrepreneurship. Students also praise Babson's curriculum in technology management and tell us that "the school is making significant ground in areas that support entrepreneurship, such as the private equity and venture capital arenas."
Babson offers students a variety of program options. Full-time students may choose from a traditional 2-year program or an intensive 1-year program. Part-timers may choose from a traditional evening program and a fast-track, blended, partially online program. Students in all programs benefit from a faculty "as good as any business school in the world. Their rankings reflect this, and in my experience, their reputation is well deserved. The Babson faculty is comprised of many professors who left top-10 business schools to teach in a more innovative, leading-edge curriculum. They also tend to be leading practitioners within their fields."
Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to Babson MBA programs must submit the following materials: official transcripts covering undergraduate work; an official GMAT score report; a resume or curriculum vitae (2 years of full-time post-undergraduate work experience is required); a completed application form; and personal essays. Candidates whose native language is other than English and who have not earned a degree in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand must also submit: an official TOEFL iBT score report; and, official English translation and interpretation of all transcripts.
Students Say - Campus Life
Babson offers graduate business students a modern campus at which "facilities are generally exceptionally well maintained." Students attend class in "modern classrooms" and "a clean and tidy environment, with wireless network access on most of the campus." The library "seems to have everything you need to do research and also offers free tutorials on important skills, such as b-plan writing, etc." As one student sums up, "Everything I need is at my fingertips, and all staff are very responsive. Computers, IT support, librarians, on-site cafes, on and on. It really is a privilege to attend here!" All that support is especially welcome given that "the course load is tough. We need to study long hours before class. It is overwhelming, and the idea of the school is to overwhelm students and make them learn things the hard way."
The Babson campus "is usually full of activity ranging from panel events, social gatherings, recruiting, to general student interaction." The "centralized structure of graduate activities lends itself to a high degree of interaction among MBA students," especially among full-time students, who also take advantage of "two campus bars-one graduate, one for undergrads-provide a nice outlet to unwind after class." One student in the 2-year full-time program describes the experience as "very social. In fact, I'm headed out in a few to see a fellow student's band play in Boston. There will be at least 20 other MBAs attending. Should be a blast! I love it here. Wish it was 3 years . . . ha!" The school works hard to acknowledge that students have lives beyond the classroom. One MBA reports, "Babson hosts a friends and family day with food and different activities. Babson also offers classes in which spouses can participate with very little cost. Movies are shown, and students and student's family are welcome."
Students Say - Careers
Babson's Center for Career Development "has made great progress in the last 2 years" and "has improved tremendously. It has taken a 'product management' approach, where the students are the product." One student notes, "The CCD has also gone way out of its way to get to know us. At the end of our first semester, the CCD had champagne and hors d'oeuvres for each BCAP group as we completed our final presentation. CCD has also undergone massive quantitative analysis of the market as it applies to Babson students. The results from this analysis and the new system have dramatically improved the internship/employment stats." Another adds, "While there are challenges in bringing in diverse employers, the companies visiting the school are of exceptional quality and provide real opportunities after graduation for those not starting their own businesses."
Employers who hire Babson MBAs include: Bose, Deloitte Touche, EMC Corporation, Fidelity Investments, General Electric Company, Hasbro, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Liberty Mutual Group, National Grid, Ocean Spray, Procter & Gamble, Saint Gobain, Santander Bank, Staples, Target, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
