St. John's recognized early on the importance of globalization for future business leaders and, as a result, is one of the first American business schools to establish a presence internationally in Rome, Italy. Today, it is a thriving center for students interested in the intersection of business and international markets. The MBA curriculum offers enhanced flexibility for students to design a program that best meets their own professional and personal objectives. Courses in social responsibility, managing in today's complex environment and the ethics of management are required of all students and serve as its foundation. The Tobin College is fully accredited by AACSB International-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

School Says - Admissions
These services and resources include career advisement, on-campus interviews, full and part-time employment opportunities, a career resource library, resume preparation and interview techniques. We have a high rate of job placement for MBA students within three months of graduation.

School Says - Campus Life
The Main Library of the University is on the Queens campus. Together with the collections of the Loretto Memorial Library on the Staten Island campus, the Law School Library, the Oakdale Campus Library, the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Library in Manhattan, and the Rome campus library, the total University library collection numbers 1.7 million volumes and includes more than 6,000 periodic subscriptions. Extensive computer facilities include over 90 multimedia classrooms and more than 2,000 computers available for student use.

Students Say - Academics
A large business school in New York City, St. John's University provides a strong, general management MBA, which can be tailored to fit individual student interests through a range of concentrations and co-curricular activities. St. John's recently updated their curriculum, which now consists of eight required courses, followed by four field courses and two non-field courses in the student's chosen area of concentration. Through the school's extensive elective offerings, students may pursue a specialization in taxation, decision sciences, finance, insurance financial management, international business, marketing management, and risk management, among a number of other fields. In addition, Tobin operates several unique co-curricular activities, including a multi-million dollar student-managed investment fund, as well as an extensive service learning and economic development program. A Catholic-affiliated school, St. John's commitment to service has been fundamental to the program since its early days, and the school distinguishes itself from other business programs through its ethical approach to academics. A student explains, "St. John's is grounded in morals and values, and the well-being of their students is always a top priority."
With a total enrollment of over 650 graduate students, you might be surprised to learn that St. John's faculty are "accessible outside of class" and are "willing to give home and cellular phone numbers so that they can be reached at any time with an questions students may have." Drawing intellectuals and business professionals from the New York community, "professors are excellent with both high academic credentials but also real-world experience." However, while students appreciate the skill demonstrated by the senior faculty, many say they'd like to see more case studies, practical instruction, and contemporary theory integrated into the curriculum. For example, a student suggests the school provide more instruction in "accounting and computer application methods, especially for finance students."
St. John's offers the MBA program on their campus in Jamaica, Queens, and on a satellite campus on Staten Island. In addition, the School of Risk Management is located in the Financial District in Manhattan. No matter where you study, the "proximity to Manhattan" is definitely among the school's major selling points, putting students in position for jobs and internships at a wide range of companies. For those who aren't entirely focused on the Big Apple, the school operates an MBA program in Rome, Italy, with an evening class schedule geared towards part-time students. Students may complete their entire MA or MBA in Rome, or simply spend a semester abroad. With the increasing need for internationally trained business professionals, "having the opportunity to study abroad while pursuing an MBA" is another attractive aspect of a St. John's education.

Students Say - Admissions
To apply to the Tobin School of Business, students must submit official undergraduate transcripts, a current resume, and official GMAT scores, no more than five years old. Currently, the average GMAT score for accepted applicants is 540, and the average GPA is 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. An undergraduate business degree is not a pre-requisite of the program; in fact, 37 percent of current students joined the program from other major disciplines.

Students Say - Campus Life
St. John's University's main campus is located on 100 acres in Jamaica, Queens. The Queens campus is home to most of the university's facilities, including the library (which includes the business school's research collection) and athletic buildings. On all three New York campuses, St. John's attracts a largely local crowd, which reflects the diversity of the greater New York metropolitan area. While many students join the program with years of professional experience, "approximately 50-65 percent seem young (early to mid-20s) with little work experience but recent academic experience. This makes class discussion an interesting mix of theory and experience." Catering to the school's majority of part-time students, most classes are taught at night.
St. John's Italian campus boasts its share of attractions, most notably, its lovely European location. Plus, the smaller student body creates a laid-back and friendly atmosphere. A student at the Rome campus says, "Since there are only about 70-100 students total we are a very tight-knit group and extremely helpful whenever one is in need."

Students Say - Careers
The Career Center at St. John's University helps students and alumni define and achieve their career goals through workshops, seminars, and campus recruiting events. Serving the entire St. John's community, the Career Center hosts industry-specific and broad-based career fairs and interview days on all three New York campuses. They also host a series of Saturday speakers, who discuss careers in various professional fields. Among the greatest advantages to St. John's is the "proximity to NYC and the career opportunities that comes with it;" however, business students must also take a proactive approach to the career search if they want to land a plum position. A current student elaborates, "On one hand, you can do the bare minimum and still come out with your MBA with a mediocre job waiting for you. While on the other, you can give it all you've got and come out of SJU with that amazing six-figure-to-start career."
At the Rome campus, the "career center staff [are] able to assist students that intend to remain and work in Italy upon graduation;" however, the university points out that Italian language skills are necessary for most jobs in Italy.
