Arts and culture aficionados, art season is here. Kicking off this month is this year's Global Art Forum titled "Trading Places,' which focuses on the trade of goods and ideas that shapes society. Featuring talks and performances, it begins on January 13, 2017 in Dubai Design District (d3), including discussions on architecture, archaeology, artwork and trade in the UAE and the region.

Its second day would be held in Sharjah for a series of commissioned guided walks around the city's historical and cultural spots including the Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah Art Foundation, Barjeel Art Foundation, Maraya Art Centre and more, guided by Barjeel Art Foundation founder Sultan Al Qassemi, who would share insights on Sharjah's architectural heritage, writer and researcher Maryam Wissam Al Dabbagh, and visual artist Tulip Hazbar. Now in its eleventh edition, the forum's theme is conceived by Shumon Basar as commissioner, with Antonia Carver and Oscar Guardiola-River as co-directors.

According to its website, the forum aims to establish a discourse on art, history, philosophy, urbanism and more stemmed from the "relationship between the economy of goods and ideas that constantly shape who and where we are." Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, and presented by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and d3, the Global Art Forum will continue with Art Dubai on March 15-18, 2017 in Dubai.
