The year 2017 started on a sad note for the Bollywood industry. Veteran actor Om Puri passed away on Friday morning, due to a severe cardiac arrest. The 66-year-old was known for his acting skills not just in hindi movies but also on numerous Tv shows like Jasoos Vijay, Bharat Ek Khoj, Tamas and Kakaji Kahin.

Born in Ambala, Haryana, the actor attended Film and Television institute Of India and National School of Drama to achieve the acting education. As the industry mourns the loss of the actor, his words live on. Given below are five of his most memorable lines:

I have no regrets at all. I have done quite well for myself. I didn't have a conventional face, but I have done well, and I am proud of it.

Puri, who was a part of numerous Bollywood films in the past, praised the industry for giving a bigger exposure to him. His groundbreaking contribution to the Hindi Cinema and Hollywood got him OBE award as well as the Indian national award Padma Shri.

I am grateful to theatre for making me what I am today. But it's not like theatre is my first love. I am equally attached to cinema, which is, actually, a child of theatre, since it borrows heavily from it.

Puri's real struggle started after graduating from NSD alongside Naseeruddin Shah. As there was no money in theatre so he worked as a part-time teacher. The actor once said at an event that the feeling one gets on a theatre stage is unmatchable and he wants to live that time once again.

I have been in the film industry for 35 years, and everyone, including the spot-boys, will vouch for my character.

Puri acted in films for over 35 years and gave a variety of stellar performances. He was featured in many British films such as My Son The Fanatic, East Is East and The Parole Officer.

Fat noses have no place in the Hindi film industry. But it is not so in the West - otherwise, Anthony Quinn would have never been an actor.

Puri was hit by smallpox when he was barely two years old, but survived with the pockmarks on his face. The pockmarks on Puri's face were a crucial feature of his powerful personality. Disregarding his strikingly unusual looks, the actor emerged successful with his exceptional acting skills and contagious smile.

It is my first preference to do films with social significance. Art cinema has given me credibility and status as an actor, but commercial cinema has given me a comfortable living.

Over the years, Om Puri played numerous characters with social significance. The NSD pass out admitted once that films with a message interest him a lot.The actor was also seen in a film Project Marathwada which highlighted the issue of farmers' suicides in India.
