With entrepreneurship in India today having taken the smart route, and potentially resulting in the evolution of solutions which are actually beneficial for society, it only becomes imminent that these solutions are conceptualized, created (manufactured), and implemented locally rather than importing technologies/models from the west. To achieve this, the seemingly perfect sector for the new-age entrepreneurs to target is the manufacturing domain.
With the Indian government's aggressive push of the "Make in India" campaign, the sector is all set to witness another potential revolution, also in tandem with the Industry 4.0 concepts making rapid inroads into the societal scheme of things. In this regard, Entrepreneur India attempts at bringing to light the potential upsides for new entrepreneurs and the budding ones desirous of developing smart societal models.
Opportunity to actually oversee and supervise ideas coming to light
"If we talk about televisions, ten years back almost all the affordable category brands use to import televisions from different countries and they had a small sales team in India, today most of the television brands want to make in India to generate employment," states Avneet Singh Marwah who is CEO at Super Plastronics.
The key takeaway here is the employment generation aspect. If you are desirous of becoming an entrepreneur with societal focus, then generating jobs for the masses is an ideal way to bring to fruition your entrepreneurial focus. When you have an idea of developing a smart product, then manufacturing potentially offers a two-way advantage with both your idea coming to life as well as job generation.
Such ventures, when done smartly offer rewards that are satisfying and cherishable for a lifetime. Here, your societal side also comes to the fore when you have both smart products as well as job generation on your plate.
"We don't want India to be recognized as a cheap labourers manufacturing country so for that we need to develop more skilled labor and more young minds in India should get recognized in the world for its workmanship and new technology products should be produced," adds Marwah.
Opportunity to contribute to an empowerment revolution
With women today being more empowered than what is thought, the time is now ripe for a revolution and India could well drive this; with respect to increasing the women workforce in manufacturing. This is where your second third focus area could come to the fore. When you are an entrepreneur manufacturing smartly in India, you could lead (and drive) a global revolution where women workforce equally contribute to your products and thereby derive their own insights on entrepreneurship.
In case you are able to offer your women employees the right opportunities, they could turn entrepreneurs (without hurting you obviously). Hence, this potential scenario represents an opportunity for your manufacturing dreams to take off.
"Samsung has opened 18 technical schools in India. The branch at Patna is India's first female-only technical training centre and imparts skills to over 5,000 women each year," added Kavita Nigam – General Manager, HR, at PN International (KARAM Industries).
When you think that you are qualified enough to delve into smart entrepreneurship in the manufacturing sector, you could leverage the Skill India campaign by the Indian government, which has been imparting life skills to women thereby driving their mental as well as economic freedom.
"Skill India plays an important role in arming women with the apt training to take over the manufacturing storm," informed Nigam.
Opportunity to build smart cities
When you are an entrepreneur, one unmissable aspect to keep in mind is the fact about Industry 4.0 being the crux if smart cities in India should actually take shape.
"Process automation also minimizes the human intervention and ensures round-the-clock operations with negligible errors at the distribution centre," said Pushkar Singh who is Co-Founder and CEO at LetsTransport.
Creation of process automation models is an opportunity which needs leveraging by modern entrepreneurs. Here, data is the key for models. The larger amount of data you have, the more advantageous you would be considering the fact that the sheer amount of data could itself lead to the potential development of smart data-driven models to mitigate problems in manufacturing.
Smart cities need data-driven approaches, and if you are able to indulge in smart manufacturing, nothing should stop you from being a true driver of change in Industry 4.0.
