Your business is only as good as the people who power it. So how do you attract and retain the best talent out there?

In this video, Nicole Walters, founder and CEO of Inherit Learning Company and star of USA Network's She's The Boss, spoke with Jonathan Morris, founder of Fort Worth Barber Shop, Hotel Dryce and host of Self Employed on the Magnolia Network, about his mindset when it comes to hiring and keeping great people.

"I think it is important to understand other people's motivations," says Morris. "I, as an entrepreneur, have my own dreams and aspirations for my business. But as I'm building a team, I have to think about what they want from this experience. And if I can help lead them and push them closer to what they are looking to do professionally or personally — that's the space I like to be in as a leader."

And while many leaders think about trust as something that needs to be earned, Morris takes an unorthodox approach: "I like to give away trust. I want people to feel empowered." Morris has found that he gets the best out of people by letting them know that he believes in them and supports them. "They don't just feel like they're helping you build your dream — they're building their own dream as well."
